“I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life (John 8:12)”
Holy Pentecost, the birthday of the church, is one of the greatest feasts of the church. It occurs 50 days after Pascha, on the 8th Sunday (Pentecost means 50 in Greek).
Pentecost celebrates the establishment of the Church with the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles. They begin to speak in tongues, and go on to teach the nations and baptize them in the name of the Holy Trinity.
The feast also celebrates the revelation of the Holy Trinity, the fulfillment of Christs salvific mission, and the coming of God’s kingdom among us.
The Feastal colour for Pentecost is green which symbolizes life, which the Holy Spirit provides in abundance and continues to do so today. The Priests are adorned in green vestments for the service. Just as our souls blossom with the Holy Spirit, our Church also blooms with life, wisdom, hope and love.
